Updates and Schedules

Well, we haven’t posted much new information here lately.  Maybe we can get that to change.

Good luck to all our teams participating this weekend in the Matthews tournament.  Hopefully the weather holds up and HCSA comes away with a good showing.

Some schedule reminders:

  1. One of the difficult reminders has to do with player fees.  Fee balances are past due.  If you have not paid in full by this weekend or have not made arrangements with the office for a payment plan, your team manager will be instructed to return your player pass on Monday.  Payments can be made through the HCSA website or by mailing a check to the office.
  2. Youth Coaching License clinic is scheduled for next Saturday – 21st of February.  Parents are encouraged to come out to this informative session to learn more about working with young soccer players.  It will at least help to provide some background in the game.  Registration is free and can be done through the link on the HCSA home page.
  3. HCSA will be hosting the King of The Hill Tournament on May 2 and 3 for U11 and U12 teams.  We will be needing volunteers to help with various aspects of the tournament.  Please notify Jason Parker – tournament director – of your availability.  We will be contacting team managers to designate at least one person from each team to be the contact for the tournament.
  4. We will be scheduling a Spring workday out at the TMSC complex.  Please watch for that announcement coming soon.

HCSA is primarily a volunteer run activity.  We have just two paid staff so any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.  We are still looking for a few additional parents to serve on our board.  Please consider serving and helping to keep player fees low.

Good luck to all teams through the Spring season.

Soccer Clinics

Friday, October 10th – Goalie Clinic for players, coaches and parents – 5:30pm to 7:00pm.  Matt Nelson (ASU Goalkeeper coach) and the ASU goalies will conduct a special clinic at the new Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex for soccer coaches and the parents of current or aspiring goalies.  The clinic will assist coaches and parents in understanding the critical aspects of being a successful goalie.  All parents and coaches from High Country Soccer Association, Watauga Parks and Rec, and Ashe and Avery counties are welcome.

Sunday, October 19th – Soccer 101 for Parents and Players – 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  Shaun Pendleton (ASU men’s head coach), his coaching staff, and selected ASU players will conduct a special clinic at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex for parents and players.  Parents will meet at the Stadium field and Shaun and his staff will take them through an educational and hands on clinic on the fundamentals of soccer.  Parents will learn more about kicking, trapping, passing, defending, off-sides, penalties, etc.  While the parents are participating in their clinic, their children will gather on Field 1for a complementary clinic which will be hosted by other ASU soccer coaches and players.  Parents and players from Watauga Parks and Rec, High Country Soccer, and Ashe and Avery counties are invited to attend.

Pass the word to all those you know who would benefit from the above opportunities.

HCSA Takes The Field

HCSA teams took the field at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex for the first time for practice on September 8.  After years of dreaming and planning, it finally became a reality.  Field 1 was released to the Association for practice at 5:00pm.  While additional work will continue on Field 1 during the day, teams will be able to practice in the evening.  The first games will be played at the complex this weekend.

Construction on the Stadium Field continues and the hope is that it will be completed in time for games in a couple of weeks.  However weather may have an impact over the next few days.

Lights are scheduled to be turned on this week as well and additional landscaping has yet to be completed.

TMSC Makes Progress

Construction of the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex continues to make great strides.  I was recently out at the complex (before the rains rolled in this week) and walked the turf.  The plan is still to play the first games out there on September 6.  Field 1 is almost done and the Stadium field should start having the turf applied next week.  We are getting closer!!

This picture was from a couple of weeks ago when they first started rolling the turf out.  Once the rain departs and I can get some good light I’ll add an update.  You can see a full picture montage of the construction process on the HCSA website.
